Some 90% of people surveyed by the BBC believe the government should provide funds to make the workplace accessible for people with disabilities.

But 40% of those interviewed, felt disabled people turned down job offers even when they were physically capable of doing them.

The survey found that attitudes to disability and disabled people's rights varied between age groups and social groups.

People in lower income groups were found to be less compassionate on the issue of disability than skilled people, with older people sometimes more intolerant than the young.

What do you think?   Should the Government provide funds to make the workplace accessible for people with disabilities?

"The government help with Access to Work, but it is not enough. People who are not disabled cannot possibly understand what it is like to be a disabled person, so will always be less compassionate!"

"I think yes the Government should provide funds to make the workplace accessible for people with disabilities. It's important that disabled people are well considered, and this in turn will make them realise that people do consider their needs and will help them to feel more content and positive about life. People with disabilities surely have the same rights as non-disabled people and should be treated on equal terms. If the Government was to provide funds to make the workplace accessible for people with disabilities it would hopefully make the non disabled realise that some people do have a disability and that life isn't always plain-sailing for everyone. That's my opinion. I think it's a good idea to have debates like these and I welcome this one"

"It's worth pointing out, I think, that the REASON that people in lower income groups were "found to be less compassionate was cited as probably being that people in that group were more likely to be competing with (us) for jobs.
Frankly' I find the very idea of this survey patronizing and offensive. I am not remotely interested in what non-disabled people think about issues which DISABLED PEOPLE (come on ESDA!!) consider to be a matter of basic human rights. After all, what is needed to make work more accessible for Disabled people is stronger legislation, which can only be achieved by Disabled people continuing the fight for full and equal human rights."

"As I've said already on this forum, it can only be a good idea to provide funds to make the workplace accessible for people with disabilities. Just imagine the chaos and unfairness if these funds were not provided. It would be a form of disability discrimination. That's my opinion. I think the long term future of provisions for people with disabilities is looking promising. Another great forum this one - keep it up."

"Until East Sussex County Council take seriously the need for full dropped kerb provision (especially in Eastbourne) then choice of where you work will always be limited for wheelchair users in this area. If you need a special map just to get anywhere than Eastbourne is anything but inclusive."
