Advocacy Service

ESDA is currently running an Advocacy pilot project; the pilot will run untill 31st March 2010. The advocacy service is open to physically disabled adults aged 18-65 living in East Sussex.

What is Advocacy?

Advocacy is concerned with ensuring that people, particularly those most vulnerable, are enabled to express their views, wishes and feelings either directly or through an independent voice. Advocates work to ensure that the rights of vulnerable people to have their voices heard and considered is part of any decision making process.

Advocacy can help you by:

  • Helping you to clarify your views and wishes
  • Help you to express your views and wishes in a way that ensures you are understood by others
  • Provide you with options so you can make decisions & take action
  • Help you to get independent advice
  • Enable you to negotiate and resolve conflict

You may be eligible for advocacy if any of the following apply to you:

  • You are receiving direct payments
  • You have a rapidly deteriorating neurological condition
  • You have requested or are receiving continuing care funding
  • You are challenging Adult Social Care policies & procedures
