Adaptive equipment that is no longer needed
We get lots of questions about what to do with adaptive equipment that is no longer needed.
The first thing to do is check that the equipment is not on loan, for example from the Integrated Community Equipment Service (ICES) or British Red Cross. Loaned equipment usually has a 'return to' label on it and if the equipment is on loan, then you will not have the right to sell or otherwise dispose of it.
It is only in the rarest of circumstances that ESDA can accept equipment which people wish to donate. There are all sorts of pitfalls in relation to hygiene, safe electrical testing and storage space, which we do not have.
But there are good places to advertise spare equipment. Our favourite is AskDES, which we run the East Sussex pages for. It's free for items under £100, but we charge a flat rate of £10 for any item over £100. We wanted it to be completely free, but finding funders is simply not happening at the moment so it's either charge for it, or stop doing it. And we think this facilty is too important to not do.

Another alternative is the Disability Equipment Register.
For further advice about disposing of such equipment, don't hesitate to contact our Disabled Living Centre or Information Service.
