Who is WEL Mind?
Wealden, Eastbourne and Lewes Mind (WEL Mind) is a local mental health charity.
One in four people will at some time experience a problem with their mental health. We offer support for people experiencing mental or emotional distress by providing a range of services.
What is the RoC Befriending Project?
The Reaching out to the Community (RoC) Befriending Project offers one-to-one friendship and support to adults (18+) who are lonely or isolated and are experiencing mental health problems. The service is open to anyone living within the Wealden, Eastbourne and Lewes districts.
All our befrienders are volunteers who encourage service users to feel more independent and more confident about the future.

Service User FAQs
How much does it cost to use the service?
The service is completely free!
The only expenditure is whatever you and the befriender decide on as your activities.
What if I don't get on with the person I've been partnered with?
Both of you will have access to the RoC Project team who can discuss confidentially any problems you may have.
Can I be visited at home?
It is not general practice for service users to be visited at home. The aim of the RoC Project is to regain independence and get back into the community. However, we understand some people may be anxious about leaving their homes and some of our volunteers are lone worker trained and we can assess this on an individual basis.
