What We Stand For
ESDA's Purpose
To secure and support the rights of all Disabled People in East Sussex to have choice and control in their lives and included as equal members of society.
Values and Beliefs
- Being led by Disabled People who form a majority of its voting members and Trustees
- We are committed to the removal of physical and organisational barriers as well as the attitudes that prevent Disabled People from participating as full members of society
- We believe that Disabled People have the same rights and responsibilities as any members of society to have choice in their lives
We believe that in order to be full members of their community, Disabled People have the right to the following 12 basic needs:
- Full access to our environment
- A fully accessible transport system
- Technical Aids - Equipment
- Accessible / adapted housing
- Personal Assistance
- Inclusive Education and Training
- An adequate income
- Equal opportunities for employment
- Appropriate and accessible information
- Advocacy (towards self-advocacy)
- Counselling
- Appropriate and accessible health care provision
We are committed to promoting the rights of Disabled People and to challenging policies, practices and attitudes that discriminate against them.
We work for change and to empower Disabled People.
